Mind Spirit Body Hypnosis: What hypnotherapy feels like

This is a question I’m often asked and the answer is not as straightforward as some would like.

The hypnotherapy experience is as unique as the person, no experience is the same simply because the unconscious creates its representation.

There are some common hypnotic traits: extreme relaxation (mind and body), calmness, a feeling of tranquility, body parts that feel heavier/lighter, chills, warmth, tingles in the extremities, decreased respiration, increased internal visualization, and a sense of wellbeing (just to name a few).

Whilst in a hypnotic state you (your unconscious) are open to suggestions. This is when and where the magic happens. Suggestions are carefully crafted by the Hypnotist to change unwanted behavior (smoking, alcohol addiction, etc.,).

Some believe that hypnosis is mind control, or you can be forced to change your belief system. The truth is you cannot be forced to do anything against your will. You are always in control.

What about those stage shows where guests behave the way they do?

Great question!

Stage hypnosis is entertainment, the participants volunteer and therefore accept all suggestions. If a participant decided not to follow instructions, the act simply would not work. Each participant is pre-screened by the Hypnotist before the beginning of the act.

So what happens when if the Hypnotist attempts to add a negative suggestion?

If the suggestion goes against the client’s core belief system it is simply discarded by the unconscious.

In closing, hypnosis is extremely safe and a powerful method to change unwanted behaviors without any negative side-effects.
