Mind Spirit Body Hypnosis: Hypnosis Questions and Answers

I love writing these types of articles for many reasons: to clear up all the misinformation out there, to educate those who want to know more, and to help individuals look at hypnosis as a path to behavior resolution.

What happens when you are hypnotized?

Simply, the subject is in an extremely relaxed state of mind, highly focused, and open to suggestions. The subject is always in control, and aware, and cannot be forced to do anything. Any negative suggestions will be simply discarded by the unconscious mind.

Can anyone be hypnotized?

There are those who should not be hypnotized: subjects who suffer from psychosis and various types of personality disorders. I’ll also include those who are under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.

Technically those wishing to be hypnotized can be. I say this not to cause ripples in the hypnosis community, but merely to state a fact. Subjects hypnotize themselves under the guidance of a trained Hypnotist. We all go into trance states naturally several times per day: while driving, reading a novel, or heavily involved with watching a movie.

Is hypnosis harmful?

No, hypnosis is an absolutely natural and holistic. Some experience an Abreaction (a state of mind where the subject believes they are reliving an event). This is why the client “pre-talk” is crucial, a trained Hypnotist will set up the session for optimum subject safety. Some clients may experience a sense of grogginess, once again it is the responsibility of the Hypnotist to  ensure that hypnosis ends when the subject is asked to be fully aware.

Can hypnosis make you forget?

Yes and no! There maybe a temporary amnesia effect post-hypnosis (this is short lived). Memories cannot be erased, only viewed differently by your mind.

Is hypnosis mind control?

Absolutely not!
